Besides the celebration of the WDSD, Italy celebrates a National Day of People with Down Syndrome. For this purpose AIPD designed a very appealing poster that shows us that we can also be connected by an “invisible” smile.
Nothing can stop a smile
“Nothing can stop a smile”: not even the pandemic, nor the mask that we all have to wear. This is the slogan of the campaign launched by AIPD for the National Day of People with Down Syndrome, to be celebrated on October 11, 2020. An anniversary that had a different “taste”, but that didn’t give up spreading its message of positivity and trust in the future.
Niente ferma un sorriso
“Niente ferma un sorriso”: neanche la pandemia, né la mascherina che tutti dobbiamo indossare. È questo lo slogan della campagna lanciata da AIPD per la Giornata Nazionale delle persone con la Sindrome di Down, che si è celebrata l’11 ottobre 2020. Una ricorrenza che avrà un “sapore” diverso, ma che non rinuncerà a diffondere il suo messaggio di positività e fiducia nel futuro.

Inclusive day centre
The AIPD branch of Potenza, in order to overcome the inactivity due to the pandemic, has organized an “inclusive day centre” for a group of 10 young adults with DS.
It is an inclusive project because, instead of working in a closed and separate area, users move to carry out different activities in collaboration with associations and social cooperatives which are active in the area and deal with environmental protection, recycling and fight against poverty. In most cases it is a matter of providing joint services for the local community: environmental services, distribution of clothes, food and others.
One of these activities, in collaboration with the Cooperativa Sociale Venere, involves cleaning and maintaining the greenery of the Baden Powell Park in Potenza. This activity helps them to feel active and useful to the community, even during the pandemic and creates an opportunity for AIPD youngsters to meet and connect with others during this period of separation. When conditions made it impossible to get out, the same people prepared, trained and organized themselves through WhatsApp groups and a Zoom platform.

Centro diurno inclusivo
L’AIPD a Potenza, per superare l’inattività dovuta alla pandemia, ha deciso di organizzare un centro diurno inclusivo per un gruppo di 10 giovani adulti con SD, inclusivo perché invece di lavorare in uno spazio chiuso e separato, ci si muove per realizzare diverse attività in collaborazione con associazioni e cooperative attive nella zona che si occupano di protezione ambientale, riciclo e lotta alla povertà.
Nella maggior parte dei casi si tratta di realizzare insieme servizi per il territorio: servizi di tipo ambientalistico, distribuzione di vestiti e alimentari e altro. Una di queste attività, in collaborazione con la Cooperativa Sociale Venere, prevede la pulizia e manutenzione del verde del Parco Baden Powell di Potenza. Questa attività li aiuta a sentirsi attivi e utili alla comunità anche durante la pandemia e crea per i giovani dell’AIPD l’occasione di incontro e contatto con gli altri in questo periodo di separazione.
Quando le condizioni hanno reso impossibile uscire i giovani si sono preparati, formati e organizzati tramite gruppi WhatsApp e la piattaforma zoom.
